CANADIAN WILDLIFE FEDERATION – 2020/23
Between 2020 and 2023, I collaborated with the Canadian Wildlife Federation – Marine Team on the North Atlantic Right Whale project. This multi-year project was funded in part by the Government of Canada, Habitat Stewardship Program, PEW Charitable Trusts, and Canadian Wildlife Federation. The project aimed to develop a series of videos designed to engage commercial fisheries with emerging innovations. Working closely with fixed line (lobster, snow crab) fish harvesters from NS, NB, and PEI, my team and I tested innovative “ropeless” fishing systems aimed at minimizing gear entanglement with large marine mammals.
The Fishing On-demand short documentary, a result of this project, has screened at several stakeholder meetings and conferences, including the North Atlantic Right Whale Consortium. Furthermore, it is scheduled to broadcast on the DOCTalks Presents documentary film series in 2024. For more details about the program, visit canfishgear.ca.
